INTRO TO ADULT TAP - Monday, Aug 9th

Working in partnership with Massachusetts Academy of Ballet just 2 floors upstairs from Vega Yoga, Debra is offering an introduction tap class designed for those who have never taken tap or maybe took tap when they were younger. Tap not only is great excersize, good for coordination and good for the brain, it's also upbeat, lively and a lot of fun!
This coming September, Debra will be teaching a weekly Beginner Teen/Adult Tap Class at Massachusetts Academy of Ballet. The upcoming Monday, August 9th Tap Workshop is the perfect introduction class to see if a regular weekly class might interest you.
Debra has been teaching tap dance for over 20 years. Her professional dancing career included many wonderful tap dance shows including: ANYTHING GOES at Lincoln Center in New York, CRAZY FOR YOU Eurpean Tour and PBS "Great Performances," 5 different prodcutions of WILL ROGERS FOLLIES, STEEL PIER 1st National Tour, 4 seasons of A CHRISTMAS CAROL THE MUSICAL at Madison Square Garden Theatre in New York, and 4 seasons as a "Radio City Rockette" in the RADIO CITY CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR in New York.

INTRO TO BELLY DANCING - Thursday, Aug 19th

Cost: $15 Vega Yoga Members, $20 Non-members
Through this series, students will learn bellydance basics, including posture, hip and chest isolations, fluid arm movement, and gentle shimmies. Students will learn a short sequence of steps to practice at home---or try at the next dance party!
*No previous dance experience needed.
Please wear comfortable clothing. Yoga pants, harem pants, athletic or choli tops, and hip scarves are perfect. Close fitting clothing will allow Melinda to check posture more easily. Dress for fun---this is a chance to indulge your inner gypsy! No shoes are required, bare feet are best.
Melinda is a professional belly dancer who performs throughout Massachusetts and New England. She performs regularly at Café Lebanon in Springfield, and has performed at Alici's in Brattleboro, the Northampton Clarion, and Marco Polo Restaurant in Hartford. She is a member of Troupe Sahibat and also dances with Ines Arrubla Flamenco Theatre.

Intro to Shaolin Kung Fu

Adam Lueb has been involved in Shaolin Kung Fu for over ten years. Adam has trained with many famous masters in MA, CT, FL, NJ, TX, and China. He brings all this knowledge back to his students to pass on the powerful art of Shaolin Kung Fu.
Shaolin Kung fu originally started as Yoga that the monks learned to strengthen their bodies. As time went on Shaolin Temple became a sanctuary for Generals and other Army officers fleeing for their lives in warring China. With them they brought the many forms of martial arts that Shaolin is famous for today.
Shaolin was famous for being able to protect the people and help the Chinese empire protect the land from pirates and raiders.
Adam plans to go over some of the Shaolin basics (Jei Bei Gung,JBG). JBG consists of basic stances, hand & leg movements, and the beginning form. It is an intense fun work out and I hope to see you there.

1:00pm - Event kick off with a warming yoga practice and short meditation with Jessica Berger

2:30pm - Gentle hike/walk in the natural beauty of the Mount Tom Reservation. Slow, easy and non-stenuous
3:30pm - The balance of the day will be our yoga practice with Aaron and Debra Vega of Vega Yoga and Jessica Berger, Karla Geoffroy, Kathy Niedzielski and Roger Lagasse of Valley Yoga.
NOTES: A rented pavilion at the reservation will function as the base of the event.

YOGA FOR BACK & NECK CARE (series)

Yoga For Back & Neck Care is both for those who have suffered with chronic low back pain or general back and neck discomfort. It is also for those who want to learn preventative care, as well as good discernment during yoga practice.
Participants will learn yoga and therapeutic movements to increase muscle strength and improve range of motion.
Participants should be willing to do a twenty-minute home practice 2 to 3 times per week to maximize the benefits.
If you are under a doctor's care, please receive Dr.'s approval before registering for this class.

Clear out the old and fill up with fresh new energy just as springtime reaches its peak! As you experience learning about the Chakras, you will be lead in some exercises that will help in deepening your sensory perception of energy as it flows through the body. You will also learn hand Mudras for energizing, relaxing, and for releasing negative or difficult states of mind. These practices will be simple and appropriate for all levels of physical fitness. You may even find that you want to incorporate them into your daily life and practice!

HEAT UP YOUR PRACTICE: Inversions, Back-Bends & Balances

Join Michelle Marroquín for this invigorating evening of exploration and advanced asana practice. Assisted by co-directors, Aaron & Debra Vega, this workshop invites students to move past their fears and enjoy the openings and heat building properties of these postures.
Students should feel comfortable in kicking up to the wall for handstands, be familiar with backbends and be comfortable in balancing poses. Most importantly, students should be comfortable in their practice and know when to take a break.

INTRO TO TAP

Intro to Adult Tap

No experience or tap shoes required.
DESCRIPTION: Introduction class, ages 12 and up. Whether you took tap as a child or have always wanted to give it a try, this class will introduce students to the basics of tap dancing. Not only is tap great exercise and great work for the brain, it also relieves stress as you tap your troubles away to the music and feel the joy fill your heart. Debra teaches a fun and lively class, where you are sure to leave with a whole new vocabulary of steps and a smile on your face.
FOOTWEAR AND CLOTHING: Tap is traditionally done in tap shoes, however, for this one-time Vega Yoga "Funshop" you may practice in any hard-soled comfortable shoe which does not leave a mark when you rub it across the floor. Rubber-soled shoes (like sneakers) are sticky and not recommended. Shoes that slip off of your heel when you rise to your toes are also not recommended. You may wear any comfortable clothing which allows ease of movement for tap class.
